Falkland wool comes from the sheep of the Falkland islands and actually is a mix of breeds. The base flock of Falkland wool is Corridale, Polwarth and Dohne Merino. The micron count is 26 with a staple length of 4-6". These breeds were specifically developed and bred for the ability to survive in the harsh climate of the Falkland Islands. The upside of the harsh climate is that insects and disease are not a problem. The wool is almost guaranteed to be chemical free. Since there are no known sheep diseases in the Falkland Islands, the sheep are never dipped and never go through mulesing. This is a wonderfully soft fiber for spinning, dyeing and felting!
